# Getting started

You need: a TV with a free HDMI port, the AnySign dongle, its power lead, and
wifi (or the venue's network details). Your organization and your sign-in are
set up when the hardware is provisioned — if you don't have a sign-in yet,
ask the colleague who administers AnySign to invite you from the Team page.

1. **Plug in the dongle**

   Put the dongle in the TV's HDMI port and connect its power. Switch the TV to
   that HDMI input. The dongle starts on its own and, once it reaches the
   network, the TV shows a short pairing code.

   The code is how a brand-new screen proves it is the one in front of you — a
   dongle that nobody has claimed shows nothing else and can do nothing else.

2. **Claim it in the console**

   Sign in to the console, open the Fleet section, and choose to claim a screen.
   Type the code exactly as the TV shows it, and give the screen a name you'll
   recognize later — "Front window", "Gym entrance", the name of the branch.

   The moment the claim goes through, the code on the TV disappears and the
   screen belongs to your organization.

3. **Give it something to show**

   Open the Content section, upload an image or a video, and assign it to your
   new screen — either directly or as part of a playlist (see
   [Media and playlists](/docs/content/)).

   Within about 20 seconds the screen picks up the change, downloads the files,
   and starts playing. The fleet page shows it move to "up to date" once the
   content is actually on the wall.

4. **Check the wall**

   From the screen's page, request a screenshot. What comes back is a photo of
   the panel's actual output — the proof that what you published is what a
   customer standing in front of the TV sees.

## After setup

The dongle needs nothing from you. It survives power cuts and TV restarts,
keeps playing through network outages from its own local copy, and updates
itself. If a screen ever does go dark, the console notices it stopped
